FDL County Moving To New System For Sounding Tornado Sirens

Fond du Lac County Emergency Management is in the process of switching over the system they use to sound tornado sirens across the county. Director Bobbi Hicken says they are moving to an automated impact-based notification system. A computer would sound the sirens based on the threat for a particular area. Hicken says for example if a tornado warning were issued for the Van Dyne area the sirens would sound there, but not in other areas that aren’t impacted. Testing is being done on Saturdays when regular testing is held for the sirens. Hicken notes the testing doesn’t affect Ripon or Brandon, which have their own systems.

Klett Deserves Credit For Tourism Spending

The chairman of the Republican Party of Fond du Lac County believes some of the credit for a 5 percent increase on tourism spending in the state should go to former State Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett. Rohn Bishop says Governor Evers and the Tourism Department has a right to crow about the $21.5 billion that was spent on tourism in Wisconsin, but he feels Klett paved the way for that success during her eight years as secretary. “All eight years of the Walker Administration she had the position of secretary of the Department of Tourism and every year she beat the previous year and the Wisconsin economy is booming it’s coming along, the tourism department the tourism numbers reflects some of that.” He says Evers and the tourism department are inheriting a phenomenal situation and the credit belongs largely to Stephanie Klett.
