Click It or Ticket Runs Through The Week
Although the holiday weekend is over the “Click It or Ticket” enforcement effort runs through the rest of this week. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Bill Tadych says the idea was to try and get people to comply with the state’s primary seat belt law going into what is sure to be a busy summer travel season. He says the state’s seat belt use rate is 89 percent higher than at any time, but we still lag behind neighboring states. “It think Minnesota and Michigan are both over ninety, we’re close. We keep chipping away at it every year and we can’t stress it enough that if we can cut down on the amount of injury accidents and fatal accidents if we can just make a difference by getting people to buckle up it is a win.” Failing to fasten a seat belt is among the most common traffic violations in Wisconsin with nearly 51,000 convictions last year.
Warrior Summit Planned
The coordinator for Fond du Lac County’s Destination Zero Grant program says there will be a “Warrior Summit” in the county in October. “We’re working to put on a “Warrior’s Summit” this fall, which is really exciting. We’ve been doing a lot of the planning work in recent weeks.” Tammi Kohlman who works for the Comprehensive Service Integration of Fond du Lac County program says the summit will focus on improving the emotional and social well being of veterans and their families. It will also look at how the whole community can get involved in that effort. The Destination Zero program is an effort to reduce and prevent suicides. In 2017 a third of the suicides in the county were veterans. The summit will be held in Fond du Lac on Friday, October 18th.
House On The Hill Charitable Efforts
The family renovating the House on the Hill in Ripon is benefiting charitable efforts along the way. Recently the home at 121 Blossom Street held an open house that benefited the Ripon Senior Center. Haley Julian says they hope to hold similar open houses during different phases of the construction and also promote historic preservation along the way. “The idea is to create a non-intimidating way of promoting historic preservation and in doing that we want to keep the community involved.” She says when they get to mid-construction they hope to benefit the Ripon Food and Pantry. The home dates back to the 1850s and is already recognized as a historic property by the state. Julian says they hope to eventually be placed on the National Historic Register.

The Columbia County Shooting Range at Mud Lake Wildlife Area in Poynette will be closed starting June 3rd for general maintenance, evaluation, repairs and updates. Keith Warnke of the DNR says the limited closure of the year-old range also offers an opportunity to review operations.
