Veterans Unaware Of Benefits

Waushara County’s Veterans Service Officer says many veterans are not aware of the benefits they are entitled to. Bill Rosenau says more than 3,000 veterans live in the county. His department is there to help veterans with their benefits. “You know every benefit managed by the VA is actually a chunk of law so we help them through that legal process.” Rosenau points out that with changes in laws what veterans might not have been eligible for 20 years ago they are today. He says for veterans when they were serving the focus was on getting the mission done and not on what they would get out of it later. Only about 50 percent of veterans know their benefits or that they have access to benefits. He encourages veterans who need help with their benefits to call their county veterans service officer and make an appointment. In Waushara County that phone number is (920) 787-0446.
