Ripon’s Main Street program will be awarding up to $4,000 in grants for facade improvements to downtown businesses this year. A committee and the Main Street Board of Directors will evaluate proposals which require a dollar-for-dollar match. Downtown Manager Craig Tebon says not all improvements are visible to the public such as tuckpointing. “Tuckpointing costs thousands of dollars to do it right and it doesn’t change the rent value, it doesn’t change the assessed value. So there is a lot of those out-of-pocket type of things that we can help with the grant to cover even just a portion of it hopefully that offsets some of that burden and helps to maintain the buildings for the long run.” Tebon says he’s been working with a couple of property owners to create proposals for their buildings that hopefully result in changes to those buildings this summer.
