Police Officers Memorial Day

16 May 2019 News

Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner was among those Wednesday to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day. He says no officers have been killed in the line of duty in the city or town of Ripon, but there have been officers from other law enforcement agencies in the county that have made that sacrifice over the years. He urges residents to take time this week to show their appreciation to officers during National Law Enforcement Officers Week if they are so inclined. “It’s really nice to also celebrate our current officers and recognize the stresses and tribulations of being in this profession. It certainly has it’s up and downs and can be a stressful profession.” This year two officers from Milwaukee were killed in the line of duty, which brings the number of names from across the state on the Law Enforcement Memorial in Madison to 267. Wallner is familiar with one of those names. Green Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Bruce Williams was a friend.
