A 70-year-old Suamico man survived a plane crash in a farm field in the Town of Rosendale early Monday afternoon. A witness reported the crash to the Fond du Lac County Communications Center shortly before 1 pm. The plane came down in a field off Triangle Road. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Dobyns says the pilot, Gary Dornfeld, was able to get out of the plane on his own. Dornfeld told investigators he lost control of the plane due to turbulence. “Dornfeld was flying from Pulaski to Juneau when he encountered what he described as turbulent air or wind shear like conditions. He stated he attempted to maintain control of the airplane, but was unable to, so he attempted to make an emergency landing in the agricultural field” Dornfeld said as he attempted to land he lost further control of the plane. It came to rest upside down with significant damage. Dornfeld owned the single engine plane. He was taken by ambulance to Ripon Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. The Sheriff’s Office, FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.
