The Lumen Charter High School in Ripon will continue for one more year. That had been in doubt after the governance council decided not to renew its contract with the school district at the end of the school year. With only seven freshmen signed up for the next school year there was doubt there may be enough students to continue the school into the next school year, but more than 15 returning students have shown interest in continuing. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says one powerful element of the charter school is the seminars they offer that integrates English and Social Studies. She believes that could continue to be offered at the high school. “And that is something that could continue even into the future and be offered through Ripon High School. The impact that Lumens had and the changes that they have made to our way of thinking and learning could have a lasting impact through those seminars should those continue.” Freshmen will not be able to enroll in the charter school this fall.
