Madison…State Representative Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan) presented her 15th Annual Joan Ballweg Leadership Scholarship this month to five outstanding students across the 41st Assembly District.

“These scholarships are awarded to students who excel in academics and beyond and are role models among their community,” said Ballweg. “Each spring, I enjoy learning about all of the student leaders in the 41st Assembly District. This year’s recipients are driven and inspiring, and I know they will continue to do great things as they go on to pursue their degrees.”

The recipients of the 2019 Joan Ballweg Leadership Scholarship each receive a $500 scholarship. This year’s winners are:

Sarah Fleegal, Berlin High School, is a very engaged student, athlete and leader. Her strong work ethic has led to success in both academics and athletics, participating in volleyball, track and field and basketball. She is active inside and outside of the classroom, in student council and National Honor Society and in Sunrisers 4-H. She hopes to study microbiology at UW-La Crosse where she will be attending in the fall.

Deana Johnson, Adams-Friendship High School, is a true go-getter with a diverse set of interests. Deana is involved in her schools LinkCrew which allows her the opportunity to help freshmen and incoming students through orientation day and lead small group lessons. She is also Captain on her school’s dance team and involved in National Honors Society. She will be attending Ripon College next fall where she plans to double major in psychology and criminal justice.

Landon Leedle, Markesan High School, is a well-rounded student. His strong work ethic will lead him to become the first in his family to attend college. He has demonstrated his leadership as a section leader in band, Treasurer of the National Honor Society and Senior Class Vice President. Landon will attend UW-Platteville this fall.

Wynne Morris, Princeton High School, is an outstanding student who is involved in a wide variety of activities in her school and community. She is involved in student council as President, volleyball, softball, basketball, band and is heavily involved in 4-H. Amidst this, she managed to find time to volunteer in her community and at her church. She will be attending Ripon College in the fall, where I am sure she will continue to grow her leadership skills.

Grace Rauch, Ripon High School, is an outstanding role model in her school and community. Her strong work ethic has led her to be active in both academics and community service. She has served in roles in Student Council, Key Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Fond du Lac County Teen Court and much more. She will attend Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University this fall to study biological sciences.

“Congratulations to each of this year’s recipients,” said Ballweg. “You’ve proven yourselves as student leaders and have made your parents and community proud. Your next challenge is to take what you’ve learned through your high school experience and go forward, making Wisconsin a better place for us all.”
