Congressman Grothman On Trump Rally
Congressman Glenn Grothman was among those attending President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Green Bay last weekend. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah notes it broke attendance for the Resch Center. He says that was in part because of the historic nature of the rally, which kicked off Trump’s reelection effort in Wisconsin, which he barely won in the last Presidential election. Grothman says the more than two-hour long campaign speech kept people riveted. “Everybody that I could see was at attention the whole 126 minutes, there was huge applause at the end, no one was dosing off. If you couldn’t make it in Green Bay, whether you are a Trump fan or not a Trump fan, it is something you should see.” Trump spent some of that time poking fun at his campaign opponents. Grothman says Trump simply couldn’t help pointing out what those people stand for.
State Patrol Doing Aerial Patrols
The State Patrol will be using aerial patrols with help on the ground to patrol Highways 23 and 45 in Fond du Lac County and Washington County this weekend. Today the patrols will be on Highway 23 in Fond du Lac County and tomorrow on Highway 45 in Washington County. State Patrol Lieutenant Chris Julka says speeding and other aggressive driving behavior will lead to citations. The goal is voluntary compliance. Last year in Wisconsin there were nearly 20,000 speed-related crashes, leading to nearly 8,000 injuries and 173 fatalities.
Groundbreaking At Mercury Marine In FDL Today
Mercury Marine will break ground on a 30,000 square foot addition to its propeller facility in Fond du Lac this afternoon. It’s a $17 million investment. Fond du Lac County Executive Al Buechel says Mercury has invested more than $1 billion expanding or adding onto its global headquarters in Fond du Lac since 2008. “They said it is over a billion dollars in investments and the employee numbers continue to grow, not leaps and bounds like it did the first couple of years, but it still grows as they are making these investments.” Mercury has also added 2,000 jobs with those expansions. In 2009 Mercury nearly moved its operations to Stillwater, Oklahoma but state, county and city incentives kept Mercury in Fond du Lac.

Four Long Time Ripon College Faculty Members Retiring
Ripon College says goodbye to four long-time employees this year. Bob Wallace of the Biology Department, Kurt Dietrich and Sarah Kraaz of the Music Department and Paul Schoofs of Business and Economics each have about 40 years with the college and Schoofs has been with it since 1974. Acting President Ed Wingenbach says the four are now receiving accolades for their long service. “So we have four or our most distinguished and longest serving faculty members are all retiring this year so were celebrating, we celebrated them last week at our awards convocation and a lot of our alums are coming back in June to honor these folks.” Wingenbach says on the other hand it will give new faculty members a chance to create their own history with the college. He says they’ve hired two new faculty members in music, one who does voice and one does music education.

Ripon Guide A Handy Way To Find Out About Ripon Attractions
The Ripon Guide came out this week giving people a booklet they can peruse to find out about area businesses and attractions. It was included in the Ripon Commonwealth Press Express. Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Mansmith says it’s easy enough to find out things through your smart phone or the internet, but there is something to be said about the guide and write ups it features. “There is still something neat about that tangible piece that can be in your hand and you can flip through the pages every time and there is still a lot of people that like that. We can find all that information at any time with our smart phones, but to have that in front of you it is kind of helpful as well.” He says they appreciate Ripon Press putting that out and the chamber hands out a lot of them.
