Ripon Board Of Public Works Proposed
The Ripon Common Council will need more information before it is ready to commit to forming a Board of Public Works or similar committee. Alderman Aaron Becker had proposed the board fashioning it after the Library Board and the way that board functions. Fellow aldermen wanted more information and so did Mayor Gary Will who told Becker the proposal needed to be fine tuned before it could be turned over to the city attorney or administrator to draft something. In January Becker proposed resurrecting a Finance, Personnel and Government Affairs Committee. But fellow council members felt the committee would make some of their work redundant and the committee was not needed.
Republican Convention In Oshkosh This Weekend
The Republican Party of Wisconsin kicks off its annual convention today in Oshkosh. Rohn Bishhop is the chairman of the Republican Party of Fond du Lac County. He says one of the things they will focus on is the 360 interview in which a special committee looked at what went right and went wrong during the midterm election in 2018. “One of the complaints that has been heard statewide by local county parties is the Republican Party of Wisconsin got a little too centralized, it was a little too top-down instead of bottom-up. It was the bottom-up that brought the Walkers, the Johnsons, the Ryans to the forefront. I think that is something the party wants to get back to.” He says tonight will feature Candace Owens formerly of “Turning Point USA” and the brat fry put on by U.S. Senator Ron Johnson.
Feyen Common Sense Bill Passes In State Senate
A bill authored by State Senator Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac passed in the Senate this week with bipartisan support. Assembly Bill 10 would ensure taxpayers aren’t subsidizing the moving costs for companies leaving the state or country. Feyen says our tax dollars shouldn’t be wasted in such a way. He says it’s common sense that one of the best ways to boost our economy is to encourage businesses to stay in the state and invest in our future.
