Name Released In Oshkosh Fatal Fire
Authorities in Oshkosh have released the name of 71-year-old man killed in a fire last Saturday evening in the 1100 block of High Avenue. Wayne Trader’s body was found when firefighters entered the home. He was the only one in the home and no one else was injured. The cause of his death and the fire have not been released. The time of the fire call was 5:26 last Saturday evening. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Oshkosh Police at (920)-236-5700 or the Winnebago County Crime Stoppers at (920) 231-8477.
Fatal Punch Suspect Now Facing More Serious Charges
The 35-year-old Kaukauna man suspected of delivering a fatal punch to an Oshkosh man is now facing a more serious charge. Christopher Barry was originally charged with aggravated battery, but prosecutors in Winnebago County have now charged him with 2nd degree reckless homicide in the October 12th death of 47-year-old Steven Mallas who he punched in the jaw over $18 taken in a bar. Mallas suffered a broken jaw and died from complications from that battery. The incident happened on a sidewalk outside the bar. Bond was set at $50,000 when Barry made his initial appearance on the new charge Wednesday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 23rd.
Congressman Grothman Has Doubts About Announced Transportation Agreement
Congressman Glenn Grothman says he doesn’t believe recent transportation funding talks announced by President Trump, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer in a press conference will solidify. “I don’t know that he will, but I mean at least they talked about a dollar figure, but there is a big difference between coming up with a dollar figure two trillion dollars, which I think is kind of high actually, a dollar figure and then filling in the blanks.” He says trying to get to an arrived on figure and if it actually happens are two entirely different things.
Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Saturday
Letter carriers will be collecting donations of non-perishable food for the 27th Annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive Saturday. A spokeswoman for the post office in Ripon says people should leave their donations out by their mail box before 9 am. In Ripon donations will go to food pantries in Ripon, in Green Lake to Green Lake pantries, in Rosendale to the Brandon food pantry and in Picket to Ripon pantries. Last year’s drive collected nearly 72 million pounds of food across the country. In the past 26 years of the drive 1.6 billion pounds of food has been collected.
Mercury Check Presentations To FDL Fire Depts Today
Mercury Marine and the Brunswick Foundation will present a pair of $5,000 checks to the Fond du Lac Fire Department and Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department this afternoon. The check presentation will be at Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac. Brunswick Corporation CEO David Foulkes and Mercury President Chris Drees will be on hand for the check presentation. The departments are being honored for their commitment to safety.
