Winnie The Pooch Rescued From Lake Winnebago

The combined efforts of Oshkosh Area Humane Society staff, Oshkosh Police Officer Mark Richards and community members led to the rescue of dog stranded on dangerously thin ice on Lake Winnebago Tuesday. Winnie was close to falling through the thin ice in an area off the shore of Menominee Park. There were large pockets of open water where the ice had thawed. A community member was able to grab him in her arms after luring him in with treats. The Humane Society’s Ellen Frank used a slip-lead to secure Winnie. Humane Society officials say they are thrilled with the outcome because those types of situations don’t always end up well.
