Former FDL Police Officer Reaches Deferred Prosecution Agreement
Fond du Lac County prosecutors recently reached a deferred prosecution agreement with a former Fond du Lac Police officer who shot himself in the torso during a domestic dispute last September. The 52-year-old shot himself after arguing with his wife at their home in the 300 block of Winnebago Street in North Fond du Lac last September 23rd. Sabel was working for the UW-Oshkosh Police Department at the time. In 2010 he resigned from the Fond du Lac Police Department after lying about stopping another officer who had been involved in drunken driving crash.

Downed Power Lines More Dangerous Than They Look
Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul urges people to stay indoors when they know there are downed power lines in their area. He says there are a few times every year during severe weather when downed power lines occur and those downed lines are unpredictable. He points out they can look dead when they are not, kick back or start fires. “You might have a power line down 10 houses away from you, but it is connected to a long fence and that power line lays on the fence you’ll never see it.” He says it’s natural for people to want to come outside and ask questions and those questions will be answered when it is safe to do so. Saul is struck by how lucky some people have been around downed live power lines yet seem to come out of the incident unscathed.
