Ripon Common Council Preview

It would cost the City of Ripon more than $500,000 to bring wages for its workers up to the 75 percent level of what other cities it’s size  pay. That’s one of the findings of wage and benefit survey that will be shared with the Common Council tonight. The survey found the difference between what the city pays its full-time workers and the average survey result wage came to a difference of $299,173. The Council will also discuss the problem with sewer backups. Council President Aaron Becker had asked that item be placed on the agenda. The Council meets at 7 pm at the City Hall Council Chambers.

Truck Fire Shuts Down Interstate 41 Northbound In Grand Chute

A semi hauling 41,000 pounds of meat caught on fire on Interstate 41 in Grand Chute Monday morning. The driver got out of the truck and no one was injured. Grand Chute firefighters got dispatched for the call on I-41 northbound just before 6 am. They managed to put out the blaze, but there was a lot of clean up afterwards. Police had to close down I-41 so fire crews could put the fire out. Lanes were reopened to traffic at 10:15 am. The cause of the fire is being determined.

McGivern Returns To Ripon For Show On Alzheimers

John McGivern host of the Around the Corner program on Milwaukee PBS and Wisconsin Public Television returns to Ripon. Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Mansmith says this time he won’t be promoting Ripon, but is gathering input from the community at the Ripon High School Thursday. “Well he is coming back to do a live studio audience show and that is going to be at the Ripon High School at 7 pm and this is going to be on how Alzheimer’s affects families.” There will be five experts on stage taking questions from the audience and McGivern. Mansmith says it’s free and open to the public and is a chance to be part of a live audience and learn something.

Tornado Drill Will Continue Despite Snowy Forecast

Officials with Wisconsin Emergency Government say despite the snow in the forecast this week the statewide tornado drill scheduled for Thursday will continue as planned. The National Weather Service is currently anticipating snow will affect much of the state on Thursday, including potential blizzard-like conditions in parts of northern Wisconsin. The expected date of the snowfall currently coincides with the scheduled date of Wisconsin’s statewide tornado drill. The drill includes a mock tornado watch at 1 pm followed by a statewide mock tornado warning at 1:45 pm and a second mock tornado warning at 6:45 pm. Alerts are issued on NOAA Weather Radios and on TV and radio stations across the state. Many communities will also sound their warning sirens during the drill. It’s Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin.

On Ramps Closings For Highway 441 Project In Winnebago County

Officials with the state’s Department of Transportation say a couple of on-ramps at the State Highway 441/Appleton Road interchange in Winnebago County will be closed for the 441 expansion project. The westbound US 10/southbound State Highway 441 on-ramp from Appleton Road/State Highway 47 is closed for the next three months. So is the eastbound US 10/northbound State Highway 441 on-ramp from Appleton Road/State Highway 47.

EAA AirVenture Hiring Event

As many as 600 temporary positions will be available to work EAA AirVenture this July. The Experimental Aircraft Association is hosting eight walk-in hiring events at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh. The first is tonight from 5 to 7 pm. The full list of hiring events is available at the EAA AirVenture website. AirVenture will be held July 22nd through 28th at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. Positions are available from students through senior citizens seeking temporary employment.
