State Looking Into Fatal Crash Involving Police Chase

The State Patrol has requested the state’s Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation to investigate a fatal accident that took place on southbound I-39/Hwy 51 Monday morning in Columbia County. Authorities were looking for an attempted kidnapping suspect. The suspect’s vehicle was fleeing police at a high rate of speed when it crashed into the back of a semi-trailer. The driver and passenger in the vehicle both died at the scene. When the investigation is complete reports will be turned over to the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office.

Facebook Followers Provide Tips In Markesan Property Damage Case

Markesan Police didn’t have to wait long to find out who damaged property in a warehouse for the Markesan United Methodist Church Appliance Fest group. About an hour after posting information and a photo on their Facebook page Friday afternoon police had the two juveniles responsible in custody. They broke into the warehouse and damaged and destroyed furniture and appliances that were donated to the organization that stores the items until they can be used by a family in need. The two youth will be doing community service with the Appliance Fest to make up for what they did. High Speed Chase In Sheboygan County

Sheboygan County authorities arrested a 25-year-old man following a high speed chase that reached 115 miles an hour on Interstate 43 Saturday evening. The driver hit a squad car, tree and two parked cars after a tire went flat after he drove through a ditch. After refusing to cooperate he was pepper sprayed and taken into custody. He’s facing a number of charges including drunken driving. No one was injured during the pursuit.

Webster Family Foundation Awards Good Efforts

Over the past 16 or 17 years the Webster Family Foundation in Ripon has given away more than $1.1 million in scholarships, grants and matching funds. Candie Baker the president of Webster’s Marketplace says this year they gave away over $60,000 in grants with a focus on humanitarian efforts with a Christian emphasis in education. “Lot of churches received grants, schools in the area, the Kiwanis to do their underwear and sock program, and Rotary for STRIVE a high school program they are running. So lots of great organizations.” Coming up on May 15th as part of Senior recognition night at the high school the Webster Family Foundation will be awarding seven $4,000 scholarships. Free Healthy Living With Diabetes Workshops

The Aging and Disabilities Resource Center of Fond du Lac County and Agnesian HealthCare are teaming up to offer Healthy Living with Diabetes workshops in two area cities. The Ripon Medical Center will offer one on Tuesdays, May 7th through June 18th from 6 to 8:30 pm. Sandy Tryon of the Center says she got her husband to go to the classes and it paid off for him. “It clicked, it clicked for him. And at this point two years later he’s lost 50 pounds, he’s reduced his diabetic medication and we eat healthier.” The free workshops will also be available Tuesdays, October 1st to November 5th from 6 to 8:30 pm at Waupun Memorial Hospital. Highway 26 Project Beginning

State Highway 26 between Oshkosh and Rosendale is being resurfaced and reconstructed over the next three months. At some point it will be closed down for about 12 days while three culverts near the Interstate 41 interchange are replaced. Otherwise the highway will be open the majority of the project, but look for flagging operations. Rumble strips and wider-paved shoulders are also among the scheduled improvements. The project should be completed by July 19th, the weekend before EAA AirVenture starts in Oshkosh.

Mural Contest In FDL

A team from Leadership Fond du Lac is involing youth in the Fond du Lac area in the team’s community project – a mural contest beautifying the Portland Street Parking Ramp in Downtown Fond du Lac. The mural contest invited local 6th-12th grade students throughout the Fond du Lac area to showcase their artistic talents and what inclusion in Fond du Lac means to them. The final two murals in the contest are being voted on online through Wednesday. The winning artist will be invited to the unveiling in mid-May.
