Waupun Burglary Suspects Charged

Two teens suspected of committing burglary and theft in Waupun last week made their initial appearances in Fond du Lac County court last Friday. Eighteen-year-old Ocean Eagle Grimmenga-Gaylord of Watertown and 17-year-old Kaden Solano of Waupun are both facing burglary, criminal damage to property, resisting, and theft charges. Police say they got a burglary complaint in the 400 block of Bittersweet Lane around midnight on April 15th. They had also received reports about thefts from several unlocked vehicles. Among the items taken were two handguns. A police officer found both handguns while searching a wooded area in the city. Grimmenga-Gaylord has a preliminary hearing on June 6th and Solano is back in court for his preliminary hearing on Friday. Grimmenga-Gaylord posted a $100 cash bond, Solano is being held in the county jail on a $2,500 cash bond.

Ripon Senior Center Looking For Support For New Building Proposal

Ripon Senior Center Director Noreen Johnson is urging those who back their quest for a new building to show that support by attending the city’s parks and recreation committee meeting Wednesday at the City Hall Conference Room. The meeting is at 5 pm. Johnson is hoping the Senior Center will be awarded the nearly $485,000 donation the Lloyd Mitchell estate left to the city. She says she wasn’t sure what she was doing when she first threw out the proposal, but is gaining experience. “I’m learning as we go and I’m probably a little bit behind the eight ball, but we’re getting there. There area a couple of great ideas in the running.” The city was given a year to decide what to do with the money.

Text To 911

It’s been a little over a year since Fond du Lac County implemented text to 911. County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says it doesn’t get used a lot, but it is available for those who might not be able to call because they can’t talk to a dispatcher because they aren’t able to due to the situation they are in or aren’t able to speak. “We’ve not received a lot of calls with text to 911, which is great because we want that service to be available for people that need it. But we do prefer people to actually call us and talk to us if at all possible.” Hicken says they have had a couple of situations where the service has been beneficial.
