Preparing For A Charter School
9 April 2019 News
The Ripon Area School District should find out near the end of June if it will receive a grant for a charter school at Barlow Park Elementary School. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says meanwhile they are going forward with what they need to do should they receive the grant. The play-based charter school would be for kindergartners through 2nd graders. “Students would still be performing at their developmentally appropriate levels. So we wouldn’t be moving any of that around. But really looking at making sure students have all the knowledge and skills that they need before we move on to the next unit of learning.” She says it’s a way of making sure that there aren’t any gaps or holes in a student’s learning that they may struggle with down the road. Whitrock notes teachers at Barlow Park Elementary put together a video that explains the educational model and cites some of the research for the charter school proposal.
