Smart911 Comes To FDL County
Smart911 is now available in Fond du Lac County, the first county in Wisconsin to provide this service. County Executive Allen Buechel says, “Smart911 saves critical time in an emergency and has proven to save lives nationwide.” He adds that they are excited to be able to provide the service to county residents. Smart911 allows individuals to create a Safety Profile for their household at www.smart911.com or on the Smart911 App that includes any information they want 9-1-1 and responders to have in the event of an emergency. When an individual makes an emergency call, their Safety Profile is automatically displayed to the 9-1-1 call taker, allowing them to send the right responders to the right location with the right information. The Smart911 App is available on the Apple Store or Google Play.
Ripon Burning Ordinance
Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul reminds residents that open burning is not allowed within the city limits. There are few exceptions. “As long as the fire is in a pit, it is for recreational purposes or cooking purposes. You can only burn clean wood. There is no burning wood that has been painted, varnished, roofing material garbage, any of that.” Saul says the biggest problem they have is with people who burn leaves. He notes they have a few structure fires every year that start from people who burn leaves. Saul says this is the time of year where they see more people doing burning. He asks that anyone who has permission to do open burning contact the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department at 920-929-3390 and Ripon Police Department at (920) 748-2888 to let them know. Those who would like to know more can read the city’s ordinance at the city’s website.
Ripon Using Digital Learning To Make Up Snow Days
Ripon Area Schools Superintendent Mary Whitrock says digital learning is something they hope to expand on as a way of making up snow days in the future. The district is actually using them now to make up 258 minutes of instruction 7th through 12th graders lost to snow days this winter without having to add more days to the school calendar. “We have all of the tools and resources available to us to continue instruction with students outside the of actual school day and we are looking that as a model for snow days next year, because it is important for that learning to continue even if there is an interruption with weather.” She says their math department at the high school has been using digital learning with students as another tool in instruction.

We should want nobody coming in here who is not coming in legally.” The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says we can not remain the great country we are with millions of people coming in illegally.
Alcohol Awareness Month In Ripon
It’s Alcohol Awareness Month in the City of Ripon. Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County Coordinator Ellen Sorensen says they primarily work to reduce drug use, but alcohol can be a gateway to drugs for youth. “We’ve been working also to reduce alcohol use among youth and binge drinking because that is a gateway drug to other drugs and again interrupts brain development for youth.” According to a 2018 Ripon School District survey 20 percent of students admitted drinking in the past 30 days and 9 percent of the students said that involved five or more drinks during that period. Wisconsin has the second highest binge drinking rate in the nation.
