Gary Rodman Running For Reelection To The Ripon School Board
1 April 2019 News
Gary Rodman is the only incumbent in the Ripon School Board race. He feels that experience sets him apart and knowing how it works he could mentor some of the newer members coming onto the board. He feels budgetary issues are the most challenging issue for the board. He says a projected $500,000 deficit is a very pessimistic view of the situation. “One of our big costs like everybody else is the cost of health insurance, we are still negotiating that and then there is other variables particularly at the staffing level at the high school.” Rodman says the district has been sustaining operating budget cuts for the last 10 to 12 years, but has done a good job with the resources available. He feels a proposal for a play-based charter school for the younger grades at Barlow Park Elementary is good. He says it is a way to deal with the stress put on kids. Rodman works as a data person for the Ripon College Information Technology program. His kids have gone through the Ripon School system. He is one of four candidates vying for three seats on the school board.
