The Green Bay Packers selected Michigan defensive end Rashan Gary with the number 12 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Gary is a 6-foot-4, 277 pound defensive end who had 44 tackles, seven for loss and 3.5 sacks in 12 games as a junior.

Packers college scout Joe Hueber told the media following the pick that Gary will start with the outside linebacker group but expects his versatility to allow him to move around on the defensive line.

“He impacted the game with more than just tackles and sacks,” Hueber said.

Gary decided to forego his senior season to enter into the draft. He was named to the All-Big Ten defensive first-team by coaches and second team by the media.

Gary appeared emotional as he got the call from Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

The Packers traded the no. 30 pick and two 4th round picks (no. 114 and no. 118) to the Seattle Seahawks to move up to the no. 21 pick.

With the 21st pick, the Packers selected Maryland safety Darnell Savage.

Savage ran a blazing 4.36 forty-yard dash at the NFL Combine. As a senior at Maryland, Savage was a second-team all-conference selection with four interceptions and 52 tackles.
