Work Zone Safety Week
Wisconsin’s Work Zone Awareness Week wraps up today, but it’s message “Drive Like You Work Here” is appropriate throughout the year. Fond du Lac County Highway Commissioner Tom Janke says the county experienced a work zone death in December of 2003 when the county highway crew’s Dennis Roeseler was hit and killed by a van on Interstate 41. The work zone was properly signed and barricaded. Janke says they do highway maintenance and construction throughout the year. “Our construction seasons have expanded just with the number of projects and complexity of them it is not uncommon to see work throughout the winter.” There were 3,157 crashes in work zones in Wisconsin last year, causing nine deaths and 1,274 injuries.
Congressman Grothman Questions Education Secretary
Congressman Glenn Grothman was pleased with the support Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos expressed for a couple of educational initiatives during testimony this week before the House’s Education Committee. Grothman sits on the committee. He says DeVos expressed support for sheltered work shops or work centers that provide jobs for people with different abilities. “Betsy understood that a lot of these centers are doing a very good job and committed to sometimes touring them which I thought was very good.” Green Valley Enterprises in Beaver Dam and Brooke Industries in Fond du Lac are examples of those work centers. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah was also pleased that DeVos wants to make it easier for high school students to get dual credit for some classes for high school and technical education credit.

During the theft Seely took a cart full of hardware tools worth about $2,000. He displayed the taser when Menard’s staff and bystanders confronted him in the store’s parking lot.
