Four Proposals Being Considered For Mitchell Donation

24 April 2019 News

The Ripon Common Council was updated Monday night on the nearly $485,000 Lloyd Mitchell estate donation to the city and those who are vying for the money. Park and Recreation Committee Chairperson Howard Hansen told his fellow council members the Senior Center would like to use the money for a new building or to move into another location. He says the estimate given for constructing a new building would be $1.4 million, which would entail the center raising other funds to cover the cost. The city would still be on the hook for paying for Senior Center operations. He says another proposal would be for a museum to honor the Mitchells, but that might be something that is done even without the donation. A third proposal would be to make improvements at the Murray Park Youth Baseball Complex. The committee is also considering developing a park out of a parcel that is already set aside by the city. The proposals will be reviewed during the Park and Recreation Committee meeting today at 5 pm at the City Hall Conference Room. Hansen says the committee will ultimately present all proposals to the council in August with their recommendation on what they consider to be the most feasible.
