Fire Damages Waupun Home

Three tenants of of a two-story, two-unit apartment in Waupun were displaced by a fire late last night. Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says when firefighters arrived at 36 West Franklin Street flames were visible in the living room area of the front of the home. It took crews about 20 minutes to knock the fire down, but they remained on the scene for three hours doing overhaul and checking on a neighboring apartment unit. Tenants of the two apartments escaped without injury, but there was significant smoke and fire damage to the unit where the fire started and smoke damage to the neighboring apartment unit. Douglas and Betty Woxland own the home. The Waupun Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Alto and Brandon/Fairwater Fire Departments, Fond du Lac County RIT Team 5, Waupun Police, Lifestar Ambulance, Waupun Utilities and Alliant Energy. The cause of the blaze and damage estimates are being determined. The fire was reported shortly after 11 Monday night.
