Five area girls basketball teams are headed to the Resch Center for the 2019 WIAA State Tournament following Sectional Final wins on Saturday.

Freedom wrestling earned the WIAA Division 2 team title with a 35-16 win over Ellsworth. The Irish claim their 3rd championship, and first in 5 years.

Xavier Co-op’s Fox Cities Stars girls hockey team won the WIAA title as well. They won 6-5 in double-overtime for the program’s first championship.

N-H-M boys hockey lost to University School 6-2 in the boys title game.

NCAA Division III Championship – Second Round
UW-Oshkosh 108, University of Northwestern-St. Paul 86

 

The UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball team is headed back to the Sweet 16. UWO defeated the University of Northwestern-St. Paul 108-86 in Sexton Arena, Collegeville, Minn.

UW-Oshkosh will play Loras College in the Sweet 16. Dates and venues have not yet been announced. Loras College defeated North Central (Ill.) 84-82 on Saturday.

WOMENS BASKETBALL
NCAA Division III Championship – Second Round
UW-Oshkosh 54, DePauw 52

UW-Oshkosh advances to the Sweet Sixteen for the second time in three years with a 54-52 win against DePauw University on Saturday night at Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh.

UW-Oshkosh’s Nikki Arneson made a shot from the lane with 1.3 seconds left to give the Titans the lead. DePauw’s Claire Keefe then missed lay-up at the buzzer.

UWO advances to the Sweet Sixteen for the second time in three years and eighth overall. UWO will play Wartburg College (Iowa) (26-3) on March 8 at a site to be determined on Sunday (March 3).
