Community Shelter Refuge For FDL County Flood Victims

Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says they would like to get people without heat and other services out of their flood damaged homes and into shelter if possible. She says that’s why they set up a shelter at the Community Church off Highway 23 on the western end of the city. She says some situations can be dangerous if people are trying to find alternative ways of heating their homes. “So if you are an individual that is dealing with flooding, you don’t have a heating source. Do not try to create a heating source with something like a propane tank or turning your stove on. That’s what we want to extremely discourage because that is very dangerous.” She says the shelter is a great place to be while you and others try to get your house up and running. Any questions about flood relief efforts can be answered by calling 2-1-1.

2-1-1 For Reporting Flood Damage Inquiring About Clean Up Kits

For some flood victims in Fond du Lac County one of the best weapons against further damage to their homes might be as simple as a mop and a bucket. County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says in the wake of flooding mold can cause real issues. It is more prevalent in dark places moisture is present in. Mueller says the Fond du Lac Salvation Army is providing free clean up kits for those who need them. “What I recommend in order to get a clean up kit, they’re free, but the question is where can you get one? My answer to that and any other flood-related question at all would be to call 2-1-1.” She also urges anyone with flood damage to call 2-1-1 to report those damages. She says not to take for granted that people know about the damage to your home or property and reporting it could help with federal or state disaster relief.

It was on this date in 1854 that the GOP was founded inside the Little White Schoolhouse in downtown Ripon. Fond du Lac County Republican Party Chairman Rohn Bishop says the party was founded to oppose the expansion of slavery, but went on to accomplish so much more during the last 165 years. He questions,” You have to wonder, if they knew that little meeting, held in Ripon, Wisconsin, would change the course of American history?” The Little White Schoolhouse is now a National Historic Site that offers tours May-October. It open for the 2019 season on Saturday, May 4th.
