Slow No Wake Rules In Effect For Winnebago County Rivers

Slow no wake rules are in effect on the Wolf River and Fox River in Winnebago County. According to the Sheriff’s Office on the Wolf River orders are in effect from the mouth of Lake Poygan to the north county line, which will include the Village of Winneconne. For the Fox River the order is for the mouth of Lake Butte des Morts in the Omro/Winneconne area to the west county line. The orders will remain in effect until the water of the rivers recede to a non-threatening level.

Water Testing Kits Available At A Reduced Price

The public health officer for Fond du Lac County says to help out flood victims they are reducing the cost of the test kits for private wells to $5. “If you are one of those folks that has not tested your water, you experienced a lot of flooding or you live in area that has a lot of farm fields around you and there could be a potential for a run off of manure that would be a person that we would love to test your waters.” Kim Mueller says they have kits available at the Health Department in Fond du Lac, but any municipality that would like to offer the kits at their offices should contact the health department about that possibility. She says it might be more convenient for people who don’t want to have to drive to Fond du Lac for test kits.

FDL School Resource Officer Funding Dispute Resolved

The Fond du Lac Police Department and School District have agreed to continue splitting costs for a school resource officer program in the schools. A school resource officer advisory committee Monday agreed to continue funding at current levels with the department and district each paying 50 percent of the cost. The committee also agreed to the forming of a sub-committee to look at opportunities to keep school resource officers busy during the summer months serving both the district and the city. There are five school resource officers in the schools, two in the high school, and one at each of the district’s three middle schools.

Oakfield School District Referendum

Oakfield School District voters will have a referendum before them on April 2nd. Voters will be asked to allow the district to exceed its revenue caps for five years, totaling $5.3 million over that half decade. The referendum would replace one currently in place that runs through June of next year that allowed the district to exceed revenue caps by a total of $6.6 million. That referendum was approved by voters in April of 2014. The money will be used for operational and maintenance costs.

Dodge County Resolution Pertains To Strip Club Operations

Dodge County supervisors this week passed a resolution asking the state legislature to give local municipalities more authority in regulating strip clubs. The resolution points out that the annual review of liquor licenses isn’t enough to curb unlawful actions happening those clubs. Strip clubs in Lebanon and Clyman were targets of state and federal court actions alleging prostitution. Both of those establishments have since closed their doors.

GOP Anniversary

The chairman of the Republican Party of Fond du Lac County says it is somewhat taken for granted by county residents that the national party was actually founded in the Little White Schoolhouse in Ripon. Rohn Bishop says the party was begun to oppose the expansion of slavery and took off there. “A handful of men walked into that building and they came out as Republicans and they would launch a political party that stills exists today and that little meeting would change the course of American History and it is pretty significant.” Wednesday was the 165th anniversary of the founding of the Republican Party on March 20th of 1854. The Little White Schoolhouse is now a National Historic Site that offers tours May-October. It open for the 2019 season on Saturday, May 4th.

St Baldrick’s Event In FDL Saturday

Nearly 45 people in Fond du Lac will get their heads shaved Saturday to raise funds for childhood cancer research. St. Baldrick’s Foundation Project Coordinator Jennifer Mattson says their goal is to raise $15,000 during the event at the Moraine Park Technical College cafeteria. More than $10,000 has already been pledged. The event will start at noon and run until 3 pm. One in five children diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. will not survive.

Shawano Woman Allegedly Handed Out Marijuana Laced Cookies At Parade

A 57-year-old Shawano woman is facing felony and misdemeanor charges in Shawano County court for allegedly handing out marijuana-laced cookies during a St. Patrick’s Day parade in Wescott. Cathleen Krause made an initial court appearance this week, which will continue on April 1st. According to the criminal complaint a woman at the parade told a Sheriff’s deputy Krause was handing out the cookies. When the deputy approached Krause she was “visibly intoxicated.” She had a gallon-sized bag of cookie crumbs and some candy. Both of which tested positive for marijuana.
