Four area girls basketball teams are headed to the Resch Center for the 2019 WIAA State Tournament following Sectional Final wins on Saturday.

Freedom wrestling earned the WIAA Division 2 team title with a 35-16 win over Ellsworth. The Irish claim their 3rd championship, and first in 5 years.

 

Xavier Co-op’s Fox Cities Stars girls hockey team won the WIAA title as well. They won 6-5 in double-overtime for the program’s first championship.

Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha boys hockey lost to University School 6-2 in the boys title game.

 

NCAA Division III Championship – Second Round


The UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball team is headed back to the Sweet 16. UWO defeated the University of Northwestern-St. Paul 108-86 in Sexton Arena, Collegeville, Minn.

UW-Oshkosh will play Loras College in the Sweet 16 and will play Loras College, which defeated North Central (Ill.) 84-82 on Saturday.

WOMENS BASKETBALL
NCAA Division III Championship – Second Round
UW-Oshkosh advances to the Sweet Sixteen for the second time in three years and eighth time with a 54-52 win against DePauw University on Saturday night at Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh.

UWO will play Wartburg College (Iowa) (26-3) on March 8th.

 

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed center Pau Gasol to a contract. Gasol, who is in his 18th season in the NBA, is a six-time All-Star, four-time All-NBA selection and two-time NBA Champion. He’s appeared in 1,223 games (1,150 starts) throughout his career with Memphis, the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago and San Antonio and holds career averages of 17.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.6 blocks per game. The 7-footer from Spain is shooting 50.7 percent from the field and 36.9 percent from three over the course of his career, and is one of only two active players, and one of 18 players in NBA history, to have 20,000 points and 10,000 rebounds in his career.

 

Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer has been named the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for February, the NBA announced today. This is the second consecutive month Budenholzer has been selected as the Eastern Conference’s Coach of the Month and the fourth time in his career he’s earned the honor. Budenholzer led the Bucks to an NBA-best 10-1 (.909) record in February while staying atop the league standings entering March at 47-14. Milwaukee was a perfect 7-0 on the road last month, extending its current road winning streak to nine games, which is tied for the second longest road winning streak in Bucks history. The Bucks averaged 119.2 points per game in February while outscoring its opponents by 8.7 points each contest.

Cactus League Baseball

Cincinnati 11, Milwaukee 5-Hernan Perez hit his third home run of the spring. Christian Yelich hit his first and also doubled and drove in two but it wasn’t enough. Starter Josh Tomlin lasted three innings, give up six runs, all of the earned, on seven hits. Milwaukee is off today.
