A semi loaded with 80,000 pounds of material destined for Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon missed the industrial park last Friday afternoon and ended up blocking a lane of State Highway 44 when it tried to make a U-turn. Ripon Town Police Chief Howard Stibb says truckers relying on GPS often miss the park, but generally try to turn around up the road. “Usually they can hit the shoulder, this time of year when the shoulders are soft then they will slide off and they end up getting stuck too. For the majority of the year they can make the turn.” This trucker got stuck on Highway 44 just east of Seelig Way. He was trying to use the two lanes plus a passing lane to turn around and got stuck taking up one of the lanes. Whealon Towing of Fond du Lac pulled him out. Chief Stibb says a portion of the highway was blocked for about one and three-quarters hours. Town of Ripon Police were assisted by a State Trooper.
