Sauk County Board Chairman Resigns Over Child Porn Charges

Charged with five counts of felony child pornography possession, the Sauk county board chairman has resigned. Seventy-three-year-old William Wenzel made his initial court appearance Wednesday, the same day he submitted his resignation. Investigators allegedly found him with videos featuring what appears to be underage girls. Wenzel posted a $1,000 signature bond and returns to court on April 17th.

Highway 45 Construction Meeting

The state’s Department of Transportation will hold a meeting in Eden next Thursday to review construction details for upcoming work on Highway 45. The meeting is from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Eden Village Hall. There will be a short presentation at 5:45 pm followed by an open-house meeting format. The project involves reconstruction of Highway 45 between Elm Street and the north village limits. Construction began last fall and will start up again next month.

Ballweg Named To Suicide Prevention Task Force

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has appointed State Representative Joan Ballweg as the Chair of the Speaker’s bipartisan Task Force on Suicide Prevention. The Task Force will study and create policy initiatives to reduce and reverse the trend of increasing deaths from suicide. Members of the task force will travel the state and hold public hearings to gather feedback from survivors, advocates, experts, families and communities who have been impacted. Ballweg says she’s honored to be chosen to lead the effort.

Job Shadowing The Herd

The Marketing/Digital Director for the Wisconsin Herd at the Menominee Nation Arena in Oshkosh says ten teens from the Boys and Girls Club of the Tri-County Area in Berlin recently got the chance to job shadow their department during a Herd game. Scott Jensen says it was theme night on February 22nd. We wore a customized jersey honoring the old Oshkosh Allstars from the NBL. We had ten teens come over and jobs shadow with different people from all different departments Jensen says they look forward to these types of partnerships and opportunities with the community.

Ripon Chamber Event Focuses On Workplace Ergonomics

The Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce will host its Spring Lunch & Learn event on Wednesday, April 3rd. It will be from 11:30 am to 1 pm. at the Birthplace of the Republican Party National Historic Site located at 305 Blackburn Street. Chamber Executive Director Jason Mansmith says the topic for the event will be Ergonomics in the Workplace and is hosted by Advanced Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine. We’re going to talk about workplace ergonomics, so maybe how is your posture are you getting some Carpal tunnel issues? We’re going to be talking with the staff there and they will be hosting it for us and we will learn a little bit more about how maybe we can be better when we are at work.” There is no cost to attend the event and a lunch will be served courtesy of the Chamber. 9/11 Mobile Exhibit Coming to Waupun

The Waupun Fire Department and Waupun Festivals are partnering to bring the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit to Waupun in June. The exhibit will be open from 12 to 8 pm on Saturday, June 29th and Sunday, June 30th at Tanner Park. The 9/11 exhibit allows folks to hear firsthand from FDNY firefighters of how events unfolded in front of them. The high-tech, 53-foot trailer transforms into an 1,100 square foot exhibit, providing people an opportunity to explore artifacts from the towers and listen to documentary videos and recordings of first responder radio transmissions. Donations are being sought to defray the costs of bringing the Memorial to Waupun. Donations can be made at the Fire Department or Waupun Festivals websites.

Daylight Saving Time Reminder

Daylight Saving Time begins early Sunday morning. It’s time to “Spring Forward” or set our clocks ahead an hour. Fire departments also remind residents that it is a good time to replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace those detectors if they don’t work.
