Sex Offender Moving To Oshkosh
Oshkosh Police say a 32-year-old sex offender will be released from prison and move to 1105 Jefferson Street this Sunday. Christopher Ryckman will be on electronic monitoring. Ryckman was convicted in July of 2009 of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl he knew. He’s currently serving time at Fox Lake Correctional Institution.
Plainfield Man Arrested For Fifth Drunken Driving Offense
The State Patrol arrested a 27-year-old Plainfield man for his fifth drunken driving offense during a traffic stop in Waupaca County Tuesday afternoon. It happened shortly before 3:30 on State Highway 22 at County Highway QQ. Tyler Lipke was pulled over for speeding, but field sobriety testing determined he had been drinking. According to court records was sentenced for his fourth drunken driving offense last March. He got 60 days in jail, his driver’s license was revoked for two years and he was ordered to have an ignition interlock device installed on his vehicle for two years.
Fire Destroys Dodge County Home
No one was hurt when fire destroyed a home in Dodge County late Monday morning. The fire was reported at W3618 Dyke Road in Kekoskee at 11:15 am. It took firefighters more than two hours to extinguish the blaze. The cause is still being determined. A fire inspector was on the scene Tuesday. In addition to the Kekoskee Fire Department, eight other departments from Dodge and Washington counties battled the fire.
Committee To Discuss Lloyd Mitchell Estate Donation
Ripon’s Park and Recreation Committee this evening will discuss the nearly $485,000 donation to the city from the Lloyd Mitchell estate. The money has to be used to construct a non-sectarian building or buy park property with the stipulation that it be named after Grace and Lloyd Mitchell. At last week’s Common Council meeting Senior Center Director Noreen Johnson asked that the council consider using the money for a building a new Senior Center building or for relocation of the center. The Council had referred the discussion about the donation to the committee for their input. The committee meets at 5 pm at the City Hall conference room.
Measles Highly Contagious
A pediatrician with ThedaCare says even if you are exposed to someone with the measles there will be time to get vaccinated before you become ill. Dr. Sharon Rink says it’s highly contagious but an immunization still affords protection. “So the easiest thing to do is get yourself immunized. If you are exposed to a person who is infected with measles you can start your immunizations within 72 hours of after exposure and still be protected.” Rink notes measles is so contagious you can walk into a room 45 minutes after a person with measles has left it and still be at risk of contracting it. There have been measles outbreaks in ten states including four cases in Illinois.
Bowl For Kids Sake Expands To Ripon
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fond du Lac County is expanding its Bowl for Kid’s Sake fundraiser to include Ripon next month. The first two days of the event will be at Parkway Lanes in Fond du Lac on Friday and Saturday, March 1st and 2nd, and then on Sunday, March 3rd at Plaza Bowl in Ripon. Big Brothers Executive Director Tammy Young says they have expanded their program to Ripon and it’s growing so they thought they would include Ripon in the fundraising event. \”(Big Brothers Big Sisters in general has been growing our program in Ripon. We’ve partnered with a teacher at Barlow Elementary and we’ve really seen a growth in matches and now we’re trying to step out into the community to say guys we’re here this is a great organization come get involved and who doesn’t like to bowl seriously at the end of the day?” They are asking if you are over 18 you raise at least $75 and if you are under 18 $50. Young says it will have a Mardi Gras Theme and they will have prizes for costumes. Top prize is a 50 inch flat screen TV. Live Jazz Saturday Night In Ripon
The Ripon Noon Kiwanis will be sponsoring an evening of live jazz music and refreshments at the Ripon High School Commons this Saturday night. The Ripon High School Jazz Band will be performing from 7 to 8:30 pm. It’s part of the Noon Kiwanis 95th anniversary celebration. There will be cake and great music. There will be opportunities throughout the night to help raise money that will benefit the Ripon High School band’s upcoming trip to New York, including a 50/50 raffle. The music of jazz greats such as Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw and others will be featured. Admission is $2 for adults, all students will be admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at the Ripon Chamber of Commerce or at the door.
