Wisconsin offensive lineman Jon Dietzen announced on Twitter on Monday he has decided to retire from football prior to his redshirt senior season with the Badgers.

Dietzen battled ankle and hip injuries the last four years at Wisconsin. Dietzen redshirted in 2015, started eight games at left guard in 2016 and 12 at left guard in 2017 before moving to left tackle in 2018.

Dietzen battled ankle injuries during his first few seasons and then had surgery on both hips before last season. He split time with Bay Port alum Cole Van Lanen at left tackle but started 12 of 13 games.

Van Lanen, who played in all 13 games as a redshirt sophomore last season is expected to enter camp as the no. 1 left tackle.

The Wisconsin offensive line will look very different in 2019. Four starters will not be with the team.

Seniors left guard Michael Dieter and right guard Beau Benzschawel have run out of eligibility. While right tackle David Edwards declared for the NFL Draft.

Dieter, Benzschawel and Edwards will be at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis starting Feb. 26.

Phil Michelson beat Paul Casey by three shots to win the  AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Monday.  Darkness on Sunday forced the tournament to be completed yesterday.  Michelson shot a final round 65 and finished 19 under while Casey finished alone in second place at 16 under.
