Alliance Laundry Systesm Acquiring Equipment Distributor
Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon has reached an agreement to purchase Commercial & Coin Laundry Equipment Co. The deal is expected to be finalized for closing in early March. Commercial & Coin is headquartered in Gulf Breeze, Florida and recently expanded in the Texas market. It is one of the largest commercial laundry equipment distributors in the Southeast region. Alliance Laundry CEO Mike Schoeb says Commercial & Coin’s energy, passion and leadership are compliments to Alliance Laundry Systems. He adds, “The laundry industry is undergoing a period of changing and having a more direct presence makes sense in today’s market.” Commercial & Coin has been serving the needs of commercial laundry customers since 1982. Their coverage area includes the Flordia panhandle, Mississippi Gulf Coast, parts of Alabama, George and Louisiana and now the greater Houston area.

FDL County Sales Tax Could Also Benefit Municipalities
If the Fond du Lac County half percent sales tax is extended beyond its sunset date of December 31st, 2021 county officials are considering distributing some of it to cities, towns and villages in the county. County Board Chairperson Marty Farrell says a resolution will go before the county board this month or next month proposing rescinding the sunset on the sales tax. He says if that resolution passes the county is considering taking a million out of sales tax each year and distributing it to cities, towns and villages in the county. “There is an idea that we are seriously considering which would be taking a portion of that, let’s say approximately $1 million and turning that over to the townships and municipalities based on their percentage of equalized value in the county.” Based on calculations the towns of Ripon and Rosendale would receive $14,640 and $9,350, the village of Rosendale would get $8,550 and the city of Ripon would receive $55,330. The county will make about $8.3 million in revenue off the sales tax this year.
Festival Foods In FDL Evacuated Due To Smoke

One of Fond du Lac’s largest supermarkets had to be evacuated Saturday afternoon when the store began filling with smoke. Firefighters arrived at Festival Foods just after 12;30 pm. They discovered a refrigeration unit was leaking oil, which caused the smoke. The oil wasn’t toxic. It took about 90 minutes to ventilate the smoke from the store on East Johnson Street. A Fond du Lac County Public Health Inspector was called in to make sure it was safe to reopen the supermarket.
Tips Needed On Bald Eagle Shooting
The state’s Department of Natural Resources is asking the public for tips on who shot a bald eagle in Manitowoc County in December. The injured eagle was spotted in the village of Mishicot on December 7th and 8th before being rescued by Wildlife Wisconsin and taken to their facility in Manitowoc County. Despite efforts to rehabilitate it the eagle died of its injuries, which a veterinarian confirmed was the result of being shot. Anyone with information is asked to call the Wisconsin DNR Violation Hotline at 1-800-847-9367.
Dodge County Explores To Replace Revenue From Housing Federal Inmates
Dodge County officials are looking at ways to replace the revenue the county lost when the old jail closed reducing income from housing federal inmates. Last year that lost revenue contributed to a half-a-million dollar shortfall in the county budget. Finance Committee Chairman Dave Frohling says things they are considering include a new jail pod, renovating the newer portion of the old jail or doing nothing. What the county does depends on the outcome of an operational analysis of the sheriff’s office, which includes looking at revenues from housing federal inmates.
Public Hearing Scheduled On Winneconne Water Rate Increase
Wisconsin’s Public Service Commission is expected to approve a rate hike that could mean a 51 percent increase for Winneconne residents on their water bills. The PSC reprimanded Winneconne’s Water Utility last week for starting a water meter replacement project in 2015 without the proper authorization. The rate hike would help recoup the $482,000 cost of the project. A public hearing on the rate increase will be held at the Winneconne Municipal Center at 10 am Friday. The utility had sought a 27 percent rate increase in July, but the commission approved a 51 percent increase. The rate would work out to an increase of $130 to $197 a quarter for the average residential customer. If the rate hike is approved it would be the first in a decade for Winneconne.
Applications Being Taken For Wisconsin State Patrol Academy
The Wisconsin State Patrol is looking for a few good men and women who might be interested in serving as a trooper or inspector. Applications are being accepted online for the State Patrol Academy at Fort McCoy. During their six months in training recruits will receive $21 per hour plus meals and lodging. Training begins September 15th and the 65th recruit class will graduate on March 20th, 2020. The application deadline for candidates is March 31st. Previous recruit classes have ranged in size from 25 to 50 cadets. Candidates can apply at the wisc.jobs website.
Senator Feyen Hosting Town Hall Meeting In Lamartine
State Senator Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting in the Town of Lamartine next Monday evening. It will be at the Lamartine Municipal Building in Oakfield from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. The Senator will be available to talk with constituents from the 18th Senate District about issues that are important to them and to field requests for assistance on state issues. He will also be meeting with the town board members to gather input on their priorities for the state budget and legislative session.
