Michigan avenged its loss to Wisconsin last month.

Ethan Happ had 18 points and 11 rebounds for No. 19 Wisconsin, but Michigan’s Jon Teske more than held his own inside, and Charles Matthews scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half to lift the No. 7 Wolverines to a 61-52 victory Saturday. Teske had 17 points and 12 rebounds.

The Big Ten-leading Wolverines (22-2, 11-2) won despite going 0 for 10 from 3-point range in the second half. Michigan led 51-50 in a tight defensive struggle before pulling away with eight straight points.

The Badgers (17-7, 9-4) had their six-game winning streak snapped. That run began with a 64-54 win over then-undefeated Michigan last month.

The Badgers host Michigan State on Tuesday night in another matchup with significant implications for the Big Ten title race.

The Golden Eagles played as a unit to get a stop in the final seconds and claim a 66-65 victory over Villanova in a top-15 clash on Saturday at Fiserv Forum.

The Wildcats (19-5, 10-1) suffered their first conference loss after becoming the first team to win 10 straight games to start a Big East season since Connecticut in 1998-99.

MU (20-4, 9-2) pulled closer in the league race and won for just the second time in the last 11 meetings with Villanova, the 2016 and ’18 NCAA champion.

This victory was another tense one for MU, which is ranked ninth in the USA Today coaches poll and 10th by the Associated Press. Five of the Golden Eagles’ victories in the conference have been decided by five points or fewer.

The Wildcats, who are ranked 13th in the coaches poll and 14th by the AP, rallied from a 15-point deficit in the second half to set up a dramatic ending.

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh men’s basketball team won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season championship Saturday with a 77-70 victory over UW-Stevens Point at Kolf Sports Center.

It’s the first WIAC title for the Titans since 2002 and the first outright title since 1978.

Ben Boots scored 23 points, had seven rebounds and five assists for the Titans. Jack Flynn added 19 points and seven rebounds, while Brett Wittchow had 18 points.

The U-W Oshkosh Titans women’s basketball team moved closer to winning the WIAC regular-season title with a 65-58 road victory at Stevens Point Saturday.

Oshkosh improved to 20-3 overall and 10-2 in the WIAC. It has a one-game lead over UW-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater with two home games remaining next week.

UWO secured its seventh consecutive 20-plus win season, a feat accomplished only three previous times in WIAC history, including once by UWO.
