It happened on November 30th and the drug involved was Khat a plant grown in Northern Africa that contains two controlled substances that gives its users a high similar to that of cocaine and methamphetamine. Ripon Police got information from Federal DEA and state Department of Criminal Investigation agents that a package originally intercepted in Malaysia was destined for delivery in Ripon. A search warrant was obtained for two packages and on November 30th the packages containing 40 pounds of dried Khat were seized. The street value of the drugs was from $10,000 to $15,000. The packages were shipped from Ethiopia, went through Israel, and were delivered in Ripon where they would have been sent to an area around Minneapolis, Minnesota. The DEA is continuing the investigation into the source of delivery. The suspect is not from Ripon or the State of Wisconsin.
