FDL Woman Convicted Of Felony Child Neglect

20 February 2019 News

A 41-year-old Fond du Lac woman recently entered Alford pleas to two counts of felony child neglect for her role in sex crimes involving a six-year-old Fond du Lac girl. Ellen Neumann was convicted last year for failing to protect the girl, but withdrew her plea. Neumann avoided a trial with the recent pleas. An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt, but acknowledgment that if a trial was held the defendant would likely be found guilty. Neumann is one of three people that were charged for sex crimes involving the girl. Shane Berg and Tory Tuinstra, both of Fond du Lac, were convicted of child sexual assault and got long prison sentences. According to a criminal complaint Neumann forced the child to watch as Neumann and Berg had sex. Neumann, Berg and Tuinstra all lived in the same apartment building on Ruggles Street in Fond du Lac where the girl also lived.
