Barlow Park Loop Discussed At Ripon Common Council Meeting
27 February 2019 News
The Ripon Common Council and Ripon Area School District this week cleared the air regarding the use of the Barlow Park Loop for dropping off kids at Barlow Park Elementary School. The Council will take a look at a proposal to close the park to vehicles during the winter parking restriction period which runs from November 15th to April 1st. Mayor Gary Will says the Council’s intentions were misunderstood at a previous meeting and an approved motion was to talk with school district officials about closing the loop to vehicle traffic during the winter. Ripon Schools Superintendent Mary Whitrock told the Council parents were using the loop to drop off their kids because of the more convenient access to the playground. Barlow Park Elementary Principal Tanya Sanderfoot told the Council they’ve gone to a new plan for pickup and drop off at the school since that previous Council meeting. She says Ripon is too small of a community to have such a big miscommunication about the use of the loop. Mayor Will says it‘s a safety and liability concern. The issue will be put on the Common Council’s agenda next month.
