Governor Declares State Of Emergency

Governor Tony Evers declared a State of Emergency Monday in response to Wisconsin’s ongoing Winter weather. Evers said he was concerned about the safety and well-being of residents. He cited the major snow storm and bitter cold wind chill factors.  He said, “I want to make sure all state assets are available, including the Wisconsin National Guard if needed, to help communities across the state and keep people warm and safe.”

Two Go Through The Ice On Fox Lake

Two men escaped serious injury Saturday morning when their pickup truck went through the ice on Fox Lake. They used the rear window of the pickup  to climb out of the truck, which was in about 16 to 18 feet of water. Dodge County Sheriff’s officials say after escaping from the Lake the 45-year-old Cambria man and 44-year-old  Randolph man headed from the boat launch to the Boat House Pub and Eatery on Chief Kuno Trail. The 911 call came in about 6:45 that morning.

Town Of Calamus Duplex Fire

Officials in Dodge County’s Town of Calamus say fire displaced two families that were living in a duplex. It happened Sunday evening at the Jolene Wille residence on County Road DE. There was more substantial damage to the basement-level.  The cause of the fire is still being determined.

Help Needed Shoveling Out Fire Hydrants

Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul pleads with the public to help them out by shoveling around fire hydrants. The department doesn’t have an “adopt-a-hydrant” program per se, but he says by helping them out you could be helping out yourself or a neighbor. “We do plead with the community to help us and take care of the hydrants that are in your yard. Shovel a three-foot area in circumference around the hydrant for us, time is of the essence.”  Saul says fires triple in size every minute and they would rather take five minutes to save a property or a life than shovel around a hydrant.

Ripon Senior Center Follows School District On Weather Closings

The Ripon Senior Center has a simple policy when it comes to winter weather cancellations. Center Director Noreen Johnson says they follow the lead of the Ripon Area School District. “We’re kind of on the school district weather system so if the school district is closed due to a weather-related event the Senior Center will also be closed.” She says the only deviation is the water aerobics class which is held at the Willmore Center on the Ripon College campus and if that is closed the class isn’t held.  Monday Ripon College closed because of the weather the first time in many years.
