Former Fondy State Patrol Captain Promoted To Superintendent
Major Anthony Burrell of the State Patrol has been appointed Wisconsin State Patrol Superintendent. Governor Tony Evers announced the appointment Friday. Burrell has nearly 30 years of last enforcement experience. He was a Captain at the Fond du Lac Post in 2015 when Trooper Trevor Casper was shot and killed in a gun battle in Fond du Lac with a bank robbery suspect who Casper fatally wounded. Following that incident Burrell was awarded the Medal of Valor-the State Patrol’s highest decoration for bravery.
FDL Basement Fire

Fond du Lac firefighters were called to a basement fire in the 100 block of Warner Street Thursday evening. Firefighters encountered smoke and fire on the exterior of the home when they arrived. The fire was contained to the exterior of the residence. Residents of the home safely escaped and no one was injured. The cause was electrical in nature and was located inside an exterior wall.
Community Open Houses At Waupun Schools Today
The public can take self-guided tours of schools in the Waupun School District today. The district wants them to see the improvements that were made in the wake of a successful passage of a $36 million referendum in November of 2016. Major renovations were made at Meadow View Primary School, Rock River Intermediate and the Junior/Senior High School in Waupun and SAGES Elmentary School in Fox Lake. Waupun Transition Academy in Waupun will also be open for the tours during the community open houses, which will be from 1 to 4 pm this afternoon.
Alzheimer’s Support Group Meeting In Ripon
Ripon Medical Center is now hosting a monthly Alzheimer’s Association Fond du Lac County Caregiver Support Group. The group will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the hospital’s Green Lake Room, 845 Parkside Street, Ripon. The next session is set for February 12, 2019. The support group is a safe place where people listen and understand. It is designed for individuals who have a loved one who has Alzheimer’s disease or related type of dementia.
