Grothman Supports Bill That Defers Student Loan Payments For Federal Workers.

26 January 2019 News

Congressman Glenn Grothman this week became an official co-sponsor of a bipartisan bill that will defer federal employees’ federally owned student loan payments until after a government shutdown ends. During a government shutdown, federal employees have their paychecks deferred until after the government reopens. However, their obligation to repay federally owned student loans is not deferred. The bill will allow employees with federally owned student loans to delay repayment of the debt until after the government reopens. After reopening, employees may enter into an optional reimbursement period commensurate with the length of the shutdown.
