Recognizing Hypothermia

Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says bitter cold temperatures are not new for a Wisconsin winter, but an extended period of time for those temperatures is what makes them dangerous. Mueller says people are more likely to suffer from hypothermia during bitter cold. Symptoms are similar to what someone who is intoxicated might display. “Shivering, exhaustion, confusion, fumbling hands, memory loss, slurred speech, drowsiness you know those are a lot of different warning signs.” She says if someone is displaying those types of symptoms get them into a warm environment as soon as possible.
