Fourth Annual Sturgeon Spectacular Coming Up Next Month In FDL

1 January 2019 News

(Fond du Lac)-Destination Lake Winnebago Region is inviting families to experience winter fun on Lake Winnebago during the 4th annual Sturgeon Spectacular. With help from a $39,500 Joint Effort Marketing (JEM) grant from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, Sturgeon Spectacular celebrates the famous bottom-feeding fish with indoor and outdoor events that bring brand awareness to Fond du Lac and the Lake Winnebago Region. The festival runs Feb. 8-10, 2019 at Fond du Lac’s Lakeside Park.

“We are thrilled to support an event that highlights year-round fun on Wisconsin’s largest inland lake,” said Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett. “Sturgeon Spectacular is a great way to learn more about Fond du Lac and its surrounding communities, while also creating a positive economic impact.”

Festival events include public ice skating, a winter softball classic, outdoor hockey tournaments, fat tire bike races, curling, a snow play area for kids, the Wisconsin State Snow Sculpting Championship and live entertainment. The 2019 World Ice and Snow Sailing Association Championships will run in conjunction with this year’s Sturgeon Spectacular. It is expected to attract over 34,000 attendees, generating an estimated $848,000 in visitor spending in the Lake Winnebago Region. Grant funds will go towards online, print and radio advertising to new markets in Iowa and the Twin Cities.

“Over the last eight years our region has worked closely with this state’s awesome Department of Tourism in a variety of ways. This current round of JEM Grant funding will significantly amplify our marketing efforts as we push out the exciting news about Fond du Lac’s winter festival,” said Craig Molitor, President and CEO of Destination Lake Winnebago Region.
