FDL County Sheriff Mick Fink Retiring

4 January 2019 News

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Mick Fink will only put on the badge for a couple more days. He will retire next Monday when Sheriff-elect Ryan Waldschmidt is sworn as the next Sheriff. Fink has been with the department the better part of 38 years. He’s been Sheriff for 12 years, Chief Deputy for the 8 years prior to that, spent 11 years as a detective, and split the rest of his time between patrol and the jail. Fink has seen a lot and even saw a resolution to the Berit Beck murder case last March when now 65-year-old Dennis Brantner of Kenosha was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the 1990 homicide. Fink says there was no real winner in that case. “It was a tough, tough thing. I’m glad we brought it to some conclusion I’m not totally excited about it, but it was the best we could get and we all agreed on it.” Monday afternoon at 3 pm Fink will take the ramp walk reserved for veteran members of the department who are retiring. There will also be a transition ceremony with new Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt.
