Sports from Wayne Mausser

The oldest rivalry in football will renew Sunday in Chicago with the 198th meeting between the Packers and Bears.

Green Bay holds a 97-94-6 edge in the series, however, bragging rights aren’t the biggest thing at stake this week.

The Packers kicked off the year with a narrow 24-23 victory over the Bears. Fourteen weeks later, Chicago is leading the division and on Sunday, knocked off the NFC leading Rams with 2nd year quarterback Mitch Trubisky back under center.

Despite vastly improving from the season opener, Trubisky can still be rattled. The Rams got him to throw three interceptions and sacked him once in Sunday night’s game. The Packers hope they can have the same effect on him.

In Monday Night Football….Seattle won at home over the Vikings, 21-7. Minnesota drops to 6-6-1 in the NFC North just ahead of the Packers who are 5-7-1. Seattle improves to 8-5.

Eric Bledsoe had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and the Milwaukee Bucks shot 52 percent from 3-point range in the first half of a 108-92 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night.

Malcolm Brogdon scored 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Sterling Brown had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Bucks, who rested Giannis Antetokounmpo on the second night of back-to-back games. He was ruled out about an hour before the game with neck soreness.

Leading by 18 points at the half and by as much as 26 in the third quarter, the Bucks hardly needed their All-Star forward against one of the NBA’s worst teams.

Cleveland’s Tristan Thompson had 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting and added six rebounds, but left in the third quarter with a left foot injury. Jaron Blossomgame had 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Larry Nance Jr. scored a team-high 16 points.

Micah Potter, a 6-9, 240-pound forward from Mentor, Ohio, is transferring to the University of Wisconsin to play men’s basketball, head coach Greg Gard announced Monday. He will join the Badgers at semester break and will be eligible to play beginning in December of 2019.

Potter comes to Madison after two seasons at Ohio State where he appeared in 59 games, including 16 starts. The first true freshman to start a season opener for the Buckeyes since Jared Sullinger, Potter averaged 4.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 12.0 minutes per game with a career high of 17 points against Texas Southern in 2017.
