No Connection Between Ripon Drug Busts

Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner says drugs busts at 115 East Jackson Street and 503 Hall Street in the past few weeks were not connected. “These are two separate cases that basically developed separately from each other so there was no connection between the two of them.” Chief Wallner says good work by his department’s police officers and a few tips helped their investigations. He urges people who see traffic going in and out of locations, staying for a short period of time and things that don’t seem right to call them in case there is drug activity going on. The drug busts at those two locations led to five arrests.

Small Plane Crashes In Columbia County

Columbia County Sheriff’s officials say a 73-year-old Town of Dane man suffered minor injuries when the small plane he was piloting crashed as it approached the Lakeland Airport in Lodi Saturday afternoon. The plane crashed in a field after striking several trees on its descent. No other injuries were reported. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the accident.

Sheboygan Man Facing Charges In Michigan For Child’s Death

Police in Michigan have referred second degree child abuse charges against a Sheboygan, Wisconsin man for the shooting death of his four-year-old son in Detroit. Authorities say Gary Chang left a semi-automatic handgun out in a home. One of boy’s siblings picked it up last Friday morning and shot the four-year-old. There were five or six children in the home at the time of the shooting. Chang will be in court on the charge the day after Christmas.

FDL County Board Preview

The Fond du Lac County Board tonight will consider approving a resolution to borrow $27.5 million for the next three years capital improvement projects. County Executive Al Buechel says a majority of that will be for highway projects including some for the new county highway garage that is being built in Fond du Lac. The board will also authorize the acceptance of several grants and hear a presentation from the County Health Department on the process for accreditation. The board meets at 6 pm at the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac.

Watch Party For McGivern Episode Filmed In Ripon

Ripon Main Street Manager Craig Tebon is inviting area residents to a “Watch Party” for the Around the Corner with John McGivern episode featuring Ripon. The premiere will be at Vines and Rushes Winery at 6 pm on January 9th. The program will air on PBS the following night, January 10th. “It’s open to the public. It’s out at Vines and Rushes and there is no cost, but people who want they can order off the menu if they want to grab some dinner that kind of thing, so.” McGivern and his staff will be in Ripon for the “Watch Party.” McGivern and a film crew were in the area near the end of May and early June to film and interview area residents for the episode.

Candles Decorative But Potentially Dangerous During The Holidays

The top three days for home candle fires in the U.S. are Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. That’s according to the National Fire Protection Association. Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says you don’t have to avoid using candles entirely during the holiday season just be aware of how they are placed. “Keeping it in an area where it is going to be away from any combustibles. You want to make sure it is an area where somebody walking by or kids playing aren’t going to bump it and tip it over.” He says it should sit on something that is level and non-combustible in case it is knocked over or burns itself out. On average, 23 home candle fires were reported each day between 2012 and 2016.

Feyen Will Chair Senate’s Econoic Development Committee

State Senator Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac will be serving as the chair of the Committee on Economic Development, Commerce and Trade for the 2019-2020 Legislative Session. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald announced the chairs of the Senate’s standing committees on Monday. Feyen says he’s honored to chair the committee. He says since being elected in 2016 his main goal has been ensuring Wisconsin has a thriving economy.
