Fondy Man Pleads To Charge Stemming From Fatal Accident
A 52-year-old Fond du Lac man will be sentenced in Fond du Lac County court in two weeks for a traffic accident in which he struck and killed a pedestrian. Peter Anderson reached a plea agreement with prosecutors and pleaded no contest to a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a license causing death. He was initially charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Anderson hit 54-year-old Jeffrey Koenigs with his pickup truck on a city street in Fond du Lac in November of 2017. Koenigs died of his injuries. The sentencing hearing will be on January 3rd.
Waupun Man Sentenced For Possessing Child Porn
A 54-year-old Waupun man has been sentenced to three years in prison and ten years of extended supervision for possessing child porn. Timothy Hilt was sentenced in Dodge County court this week on three counts, seven other counts of possessing child porn were read into the record and dismissed. In May of last year a search of his laptop turned up hundreds of explicit images. An online watch dog service tipped officers Hilt’s IP address was being used to download illegal pictures.
Fair Board Pays Off FDL County Loan
The fortunes of the Fond du Lac County Fair have turned around in the past few years. During Tuesday night’s county board meeting Fair Board Treasurer Matt Immel and President Katie Grinstead presented County Board Chairperson Marty Farrell with a check for $15,000. It was the final payment of a $50,000 loan the county had made to the fair during leaner years. Immel told the county board their gross revenues for last summer’s fair were up by about $150,000 and they had a profit of over $121,000. “Our exhibit numbers have remained steady. We’re very pleased we have able to change the way we market the event and market each individual event. Our concerts have brought in guests from surrounding states spending nights in hotels in the area contributing the local sales tax.” Grinstead said they work very hard and a lot of hours to make the fair successful.
Dodge County Board Approves Sheriff’s Office Analysis
The Dodge County Board this week approved the hiring of a California firm do an operational analysis of the Sheriff’s Office. The Matrix Consulting Group will review different areas of the operation. That will include evaluating budgeting and financial procedures. The Human Services Department went through a similar process three years ago. The county’s aim is to review each department every couple of years. The Sheriff’s Office analysis will be presented to the county board next August.
Planning Has Role In Successful Downtown Ripon Events
Ripon Main Street Manager Craig Tebon says they had several successful events this year and are planning for others for 2019. He points out the Wine Walk held last month was one of those events. “We just finished a very successful one in early November, we have another spring one coming up on Friday, April 12th. We have an event called “Women on Watson” that will be coming up in May, Saturday May 4th. The summer concert series is back in the planning stages.” Tebon says when it comes to the summer concert series they try to bring in a variety of musical acts to satisfy the eclectic tastes of the community. He says the events require a lot of advanced planning.
Keys To Safe Holiday Food Preparation
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says the key to safe food preparation this holiday season is to avoid cross contamination. She recommends using one surface for cutting up meat and another for vegetables and washing your hands after you finish each task. “Try to make sure you do that you do that on one surface and if you are going to switch over to cutting vegetables make sure you use a separate surface and make sure you are washing your hands with hot soap and water in between.” She also recommends keeping in mind “Keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold” when it comes to leaving food out. She suggests putting everything back in the refrigerator after everyone has finished preparing their plate.
Garbage Collection Times For Ripon Changed For The Holidays
With Christmas and New Year’s Day falling on the next two Tuesdays there will be changes to garbage collection in Ripon the next two weeks. Next Monday’s pick up (the 24th) will be collected this Friday (the 21st) instead. Next Tuesday’s Christmas Day will be collected next Wednesday. For Monday, December 31st the pick up day will be moved to Friday, December 28th and the collection for Tuesday, January 1st will be done on Wednesday, January 2nd.
FDL County Offices Closed For The Holidays
Fond du Lac County offices will be closed all day next Monday and Tuesday for the Christmas holiday and Tuesday, January 1st for New Year’s Day. Officials say offices will close at noon on Monday, December 31st and the Sheriff’s Office lobby and records at 11 am that morning. The Highway Department will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s. The Veterans Service Office and Moraine Lakes Consortium call center will be closed the next two Mondays and Tuesdays for the holidays.
