Oshkosh Police Make Santa’s Nice List

5 December 2018 News

It’s probably a safe bet the Oshkosh Police Department is on Santa’s nice list this season. The department has been involved in a number of charitable efforts. Participation in the Lights of Christmas program brought them $4,500 in gift cards. A local church gave them blessing bags, which contain food, hygiene items, hats, mittens, scarves and other items. The cards and blessing bags will be distributed to the needy including a warming shelter. Lakefront Manor with funding from Thrivent made hats, scarves and blankets police can give out to children. Public Affairs Officer Kathrine Mann says they also adopted 11 refugee families. “And in those families there are 38 kids. We also adopted 26 seniors in our community and we are calling it ‘Santa for Seniors’ and we put together gift packets for them. So that includes blankets, sweaters, hygiene items and food items.” They also got over 1,000 stuffed animals from Pet Smart, which will be given to children in the pediatric units of local hospitals. Also this month the department will participate in the Shop with a Cop program. Mann says there is no way they could do what they have done without the generous donations of the community.
