Omro Man Revived With Narcan Following Dodge County Crash
State troopers had to use Narcan to revive a 30-year-old Omro man who crashed his vehicle into a median cable barrier on I-41 northbound in Dodge County early Thursday morning. Vince Heath regained consciousness after troopers administered a dose of Narcan. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend where a search warrant was issued for a legal blood draw. Heath was arrested on his fourth operating while intoxicated offense. The crash south of State Highway 28 was reported shortly before 2;30 Thursday morning.
Drive Sober Effort Continues
With more people on the road this weekend for the holiday season a reminder that hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the state are participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. All of the law enforcement agencies in Fond du Lac County are participating. “We’ve kind of hopefully turned the corner in this state when it comes to this issue about impaired driving and drunk driving where really it is about planning ahead, you know knowing your limits knowing if you are going to go out and consume to make that plan ahead of time.” Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner says if you plan to drink use a designated driver, call a cab or find out if the bar or restaurant you may be in participates in a “Safe Ride” program. “Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over” runs through New Year’s Day.
Sex Offender Being Returned To Nitschke Road Residence
Today a violent sex offender will be moving back into a residence on Nitschke Road in Fond du Lac County’s Town of Eldorado. Forty-two-year-old James Broeders was previously placed there before violating his parole and being sent back to a state treatment facility. But the residence has been a source of controversy because judges from other counties have tried to place their sex offenders at the residence. “This house has kind of become a dumping grounds for sex offenders from around the state and so we were getting placement orders from judges from all over Wisconsin.” Fond du Lac County Chief Deputy Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says county and town officials fought against those placements, which led to a change in the law which requires judges to place violent sex offenders at residences in the county where they were convicted.
Keep The Wreath Green
The Ripon Area Fire District would like to keep a wreath at city hall green this holiday season. “We have a wreath hung at city hall to bring awareness to holiday fire safety so if there is a fire caused by Christmas decorations or holiday decorations we change the light bulbs, a light bulb from green to red to signify we have had a holiday fire.” Fire Chief Tim Saul says they have had only one fire during the holidays the past five years. He says residents can do their part by making sure real Christmas trees in their homes get enough water, checking extension cords to make sure they aren’t frayed, and not overloading electrical outlets.
Markesan Resident Home Hosting Christmas Dinner
The Markesan Resident Home will be hosting Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day. It starts at 11:45 that morning and is free and open to anyone who wants to attend. Julie Lentz is a dietitian at the Markesan Resident Home she says they would like to hear from anyone who might want to attend. “If you need a hot meal come on over. We would appreciate an RSVP so we know how many people to cook for so you’re welcome to give us a call at 920-398-2751 and you can ask for Dawn she’s out dietary manager.” The menu includes tender marinated roast beef, creamy mashed garlic red potatoes, steamed brussel sprouts & baby carrots, cranberry orange relish, fresh baked silver dollar rolls and chocolate mint pie.
Green Lake County Offices Closed For Christmas And New Year’s
The Green Lake County Government Center and Green Lake County Highway Department will be closed the next two Mondays and Tuesdays to observe the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Fox River Industries will be closed next Monday through January 1st to observe the holidays and for end of the year programming.
