Challenge Coins Recognize Special Efforts

Green Lake County Sheriff Mark Podoll recently handed out challenge coins to three individuals for saving lives. The challenge coin originated with the military and was a way of showing pride in one’s unit. Podoll says Dane County’s Sheriff talked at a conference about handing out challenge coins to those who went above and beyond the call of duty. Recently Podoll gave coins to Stacey Debelius of Princeton and Eric Shady of Redgranite who helped out a heart attack victim at a Princeton business on May 27th. “They were at a business in the City of the Princeton and a gentleman went down and they called 911 and our 911 communication officer gave instructions over the phone about how to do CPR and they did that.” Another coin was given to Sheriff’s Corrections Officer Craig Leinweber (pictured below with Sheriff Podoll) who saved the life of an inmate at their corrections center who had hung himself on May 30th. Sheriff Podoll says people want recognition when they do something good and the challenge coins are a way to do that.
