The Packers are back on the practice field today getting ready for Sunday’s home game with the Miami Dolphins.
The Packers announced Tuesday they have placed wide receiver Geronimo Allison on injured reserve and released safety Jermaine Whitehead. Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy told the media on Monday, Allison’s groin injury required surgery. A day later, they placed the WR on IR.
While Whitehead had played 96 percent of snaps against the Los Angeles Rams in week 8 and was in line to get the bulk of snaps after Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst traded S Haha Clinton-Dix to the Washington Redskins.
Whitehead was ejected on Sunday in New England for slapping Patriots center David Andrews. Gutekunst announced the signings of free agent S Ibraheim Campbell on Monday, promoted cornerback Will Redmond to the 53-man roster on Tuesday.
The Packers also signed LB Brady Sheldon to the practice squad.
Thirteen years after setting up office at Lambeau Field, former general manager Ted Thompson will also have a place in the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.
The team announced Thompson will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in May.
Thompson joined the Packers organization in 2005, serving as executive vice president, general manager and director of football operations. He’s currently senior advisor of football operations. During his tenure in the front office, the Packers had the best regular season record in the NFC and won a Super Bowl, played in four NFC Championship games, and won six NFC North titles.
The Packers point out Thompson acquired 49 of 53 Packers players on the roster for in that Super Bowl XLV victory, including 19 of the 22 starters.
The induction banquet is being moved to May to better accommodate football and summer schedules, the organization said. Details will be announced on the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame website once they’re finalized.
Wisconsin wildlife officials say hunters killed fewer black bears this year.
The Department of Natural Resources says preliminary registration numbers show hunters killed 3,685 bears during the 2018 season, down 11 percent from 4,136 in 2017.
DNR officials say the reduced harvest was expected since the agency reduced the quota in three of the state’s four bear management zones to boost the population.
More than 124,000 hunters applied for a 2018 permit or a preference point in the DNR’s permit lottery.
