Heavy Voter Turnout Expected

Expect a lot of company at the polls if you plan on voting today in Fond du Lac County. County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says more than 43,000 people voted in the last mid-term election and as of late last week there were 54,725 registered voters in the County. She is expecting a lot of people to register at the polls and wouldn’t be surprised if the turnout at the polls would be more than 50,000 voters. “I’m saying very high. I know this is going to be a mid-term election that we have not seen numbers like in the past.” In addition to state offices voters will decide on Congressional and U.S. Senate seats today. We will have reports on election results for you tonight on WRPN.

Disaster Assistance

The Communications and Emergency Management Director for Fond du Lac County is not surprised the County was not eligible for individual disaster assistance from the Federal government. Bobbi Hicken says the Federal Emergency Management Agency tends to side with areas where residents homes aren’t safe to live in. “FEMA assistance is typically used for helping people get back into a safe living environment and it is due to not having insurance and those are usually because of flooding incidents.” She says most of the damage in Fond du Lac County was due to wind damage. Adams, Columbia, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Jefferson, Ozaukee and Washington counties did not qualify for individual federal disaster assistance in the wake of storm and flood damage.

Defense In Fox Lake Murder Trial Offering Up Alternative Suspect

A Dodge County murder case has taken a twist. A judge last week granted a motion that will allow the mother of a Fox Lake murder suspect to be considered a suspect during the trial for 38-year-old Laverne Ware Jr. Ware is charged with first degree intentional homicide in the December 2016 shooting death of his girlfriend Sesalie Dixon. The defense contends Ware’s mother, Marjorie Jones, had the opportunity and motive to commit the murder. Last March Jones was sentenced to six years in prison for helping conceal the killing. The defense claims that Dixon was having an affair with Jones 59-year-old boyfriend. The defense also says Jones thought the 27-year-old woman was after her son‘s money and that Dixon stole prescription opioid drugs from her. Ware has a two-week jury trial in March.
